The AI-Powered Rank Tracker

The AI-Powered Rank Tracker

Ben Desjardins

I’ve been doing local SEO for my own businesses and for clients for longer than I like to admit. It’s one of these disciplines in marketing that’s time consuming on many fronts.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s another necessary evil.

I can’t count how many tools I’ve used, all with different purposes, the dashboards that come with them, and for some of them, the price tags.

The ever-evolving rules dictated by Google on what makes a website rank, (and more recently how to get cited by AI giants) make it hard to keep up with if you don’t spend hours reading and testing different theories. Then there’s the Google Business profile, the too-often neglected gold mine that can win the Map Pack even without a website.

Another time-consuming aspect is the execution itself. Getting a complete SEO audit is the easy part. Technical SEO, content gaps, on-page, off-page, backlinks, schema, page speed optimization, conversion rate optimization, NAP consistency, E-E-A-T, you name it. All bundled in a 70-page report.

The not so easy part is what to do about it, what to prioritize, and how to track the difference each action item made.

My clients don’t care much about most of the metrics. I see them gazing at percentages and numbers with all the complexity of the SEO universe. CTR, Engaged sessions per active user, yadi-yada.

I actually stopped presenting dashboards a while ago. Instead, we focus on their business performance. Did you get more inquiries this past month? How many of them became clients? Was it better or worse than the previous month?

What will we focus on improving next?

This is the question that matters. From that 70-page report, what are the top 3 things we should be doing this week?

As my marketing agency gained more clients that all needed this ongoing monitoring and improving, I found my team spending more and more time pulling data and reconciling dashboards just so we could answer that question. What do we do next?

Ranking #1 on Google is a myth, or at least, an incomplete statement. One can rank #1 in the organic results of Google for a given query when located in a specific area. This is a more accurate way of saying it.

And even if you’re #1 in the organic results for that query, There’s now the AI answer that comes above it, 3-4 businesses listed in the map pack, 4 sponsored results, then your #1 ranking listing. That makes you #8, not #1, and invisible without scrolling. More on this in this article about the LDC Framework.

So there are different types of results on Google, and winning the top position in each of them requires different strategies, and different tools. Always more tools, more licenses, more credits, more dashboards. It never ends.

What surprised me was there was no tool that leveraged AI to simplify all that under one hood.

So I created it. It took months to test and refine. My goal was to be able to answer the question “What do we do next?” in 30 seconds.

Pulling the data on a schedule, comparing it with the previous period, highlighting the top movers and recommending the top 3 actions that will have the biggest impact. Sent to my inbox, weekly. For each client.

Each recommendation feeds a ledger. When it’s been applied, the change is recorded with one click. Done.

The targeted page is tracked for the next 60 days. Did it make a difference? There’s a receipt for that.

The tool isn’t meant to replace the Semrush and Ahrefs of this world. Local Rank Tracker isn’t meant to be a SEO behemoth. It delivers a finished weekly report, provides recommendations and tracks the improvements, without worrying about credits and another dashboard.

More recently, I realized I wasn’t the only one juggling ranking reports, either for one business or for several clients.

But then came the question, should I keep it to my unfair advantage as an agency owner? Because the truth is, it is unfair.

So I made it available to other businesses, and to agencies in a white label version.

I prepared an ungated demo site, anyone can see it without giving an email address.

Then there’s a free snapshot, a simplified version that lets anyone get a snapshot of their current ranking on a geo-grid. It also includes AI-citations, Google AI mode and ad pressure.

Ultimately, local SEO shouldn’t feel like an endless maze of metrics and dashboards. The AI-Powered Local Rank Tracker takes the guesswork out of the equation, saving hours of reconciliation and giving clear, actionable priorities each week so you always know what to do next.
